IP Law Links
I’m collecting links to information about IP law. Primarily, I’m looking for information on the clauses that go into a novel contract. I’m posting these links here so I can find them. I’m not a lawyer; your mileage may vary.
Here they are:
Wisconsin Bar Association on avoiding publishing scams. Tips on how to avoid illegitimate publishing houses. Also mentions options clause, granting of rights, resale clause. By Ellen M. Kozak, suggested by Laura Resnick.
An overview of copyright law, from Cornell University. Link courtesy of Michael Lovitz’s page. He gave a great class at Comic-Con 2010. He also provides links for patent, trademark, and service mark info. He has links to sites describing the laws of several foreign countries.
JD Sawyer advises how to look closely at the kinds of rights and the wording which delineates them in your contract. Single-actor audio presentations are different from multiple-actor audio presentations. Who knew?
A list and explanation of important contract clauses from Absolute Write. Clicking (or at least believing) the ads not recommended; however reading the consequences of plagiarizing, listed at the bottom of the page, is a must.
Darcy Pattinson. I’m bookmarking this for the “Clauses, Clauses, and Clauses” section.
Publishlawyer on contract trouble spots. Sections include Acceptance of Manuscript, Cross-Collateralization, Indemnification and Warranties, Out of Print Clauses, Option Clauses, Publication Date, Rights, and Royalties.
